Set Up the Writing and Edit the Outline
Steps 8 and 9 of Write Article. Set content goal, length, tone, point of view, and specific guidance, then review and edit the proposed outline before anything is written.

Step 8 sets how the article is written. Step 9 is where you decide what it actually says, and it is the most valuable step in the wizard.
Step 8: Writing Setup
Everything here is pre-filled from your Brand Profile and can be overridden for this article.
Content Goal
- Drive organic SEO traffic. Optimises for search coverage and depth.
- Generate inbound leads. Leans towards the reader's problem and your solution, with a stronger call to action.
- Build brand authority. Favours depth, evidence, and a considered position.
- Support local SEO. Pair this with local SEO locations in step 1.
- Educate customers. Explanatory, aimed at people who already know you.
Article Length
Match this to the topic rather than defaulting to longer. A Pillar length article about a narrow question pads to fill the word count, and padding is obvious to read.
Length also interacts with your article type. An ultimate guide wants In-depth or Pillar. A checklist rarely needs more than Short.
Writing Tone
Professional, conversational, friendly, authoritative, educational, persuasive, storytelling, or journalistic.
Point of View
- First person. I, me, mine, we, us, our.
- Second person. You, your, yours. This is the default.
- Third person. He, she, they.
Second person suits instructional content. First person suits opinion pieces and case studies where the experience is yours. Third person suits reporting and formal writing.
Expert Guidance
A free-text field, pre-filled from the AI writing instructions in your Brand Profile.
This is where specific instructions go, and it is more useful than most people expect. Things worth putting here:
- A claim you must not make, for compliance or accuracy reasons
- Terminology your industry uses, or terminology to avoid
- An angle you want the article to take
- A product or service to mention, or to leave out
- Detail only you know, such as a caveat that applies to your customers
Step 9: Outline
NarraSEO proposes a structure based on everything before this step. You can:
- Edit headings directly
- Change heading levels, from H1 through H6
- Set section depth to brief, standard, or deep
- Reorder or remove sections
- Regenerate the whole outline
Why This Step Deserves your Attention
Restructuring a finished article means rewriting it. Restructuring a list of headings takes a minute. This is the cheapest point in the process to fix the article.
Three things to check:
- Does the order make sense to a reader who knows nothing? Generated outlines occasionally answer a question before establishing why it matters.
- Is anything missing that you know your customers ask? Add it as a heading. This is where your knowledge of your own market beats any research.
- Is anything padding? A section that exists to hit a word count is worth deleting now.
Section Depth
Use depth deliberately rather than leaving everything standard. Setting your two or three most important sections to deep, and the peripheral ones to brief, produces an article weighted the way you would weight it yourself.
Notes
Regenerating the outline replaces your edits, so make your manual changes after any regeneration rather than before.
If you change the article type or length after building an outline, regenerate it. The old outline will not match the new shape.
Nothing here costs credits. The charge happens when you generate.
Next
Step 10 is enhancements, then you generate.
