Research Keywords

Enter a seed keyword and target location in Keyword Research to get long-tail ideas with volume, trend, competition, and intent data. Research is included in your plan rather than charged per search.

Keyword Research finds terms people actually search for, with the data to judge whether they are worth targeting. Find it at Sidebar β†’ Plan β†’ Keyword Research.

Keyword research is included in your plan. It does not cost credits.

Steps

  1. Go to Sidebar β†’ Plan β†’ Keyword Research.
  2. Enter a Seed keyword or topic, for example "boiler installation".
  3. Set a Target location. Choose a country for localised results, or leave it as Global. You can also enter a city, such as London or Denver CO.
  4. Optionally add Additional context describing your business or the content you want to create.
  5. Leave Use brand profile for context on, so ideas are tailored to your business.
  6. Select Find keywords.

It usually takes about 5 to 12 seconds.

You get hundreds of long-tail ideas in a sortable table. The summary line above it shows the keyword count, total volume, and how many you have shortlisted.

Choosing Keywords Worth Writing About

Start with intent, not volume. A keyword with 200 searches and clear buying intent is often worth more than one with 5,000 searches from people who will never become customers.

Weigh difficulty against your site. If your site is new, targeting high-difficulty terms means writing articles that will not rank for a long time. Lower difficulty terms with modest volume build momentum.

Check the trend. A falling trend on a keyword with good current volume is a term to be careful with.

Watch for CPC as a value signal. Advertisers paying well for a term is evidence that traffic converts, even when volume looks small.

Saving What you Find

Select the keywords you want and use Save to Planner. You can add them to an existing list or Save as new list.

Saved lists live in Keyword Planner and become the source for content plans and article topics.

There is a separate article on managing lists.

Writing from a Keyword

You can go straight from a result into writing. NarraSEO carries the primary keyword and up to 3 secondary keywords into the wizard, so you do not re-enter them.

Notes

If you have no Brand Profile, you will see "Add a brand profile to get keyword ideas tailored to your business." Research still works, but the ideas will be generic.

Metrics depend on data availability for your country and language. Some combinations return fewer metrics, and you can still work with the keyword list.

Refresh re-runs the metrics on results you already have.

Refreshing metrics for saved keywords in Keyword Planner does cost 50 credits, covering up to 1,000 keywords in one go. Research itself remains free.

If No Results Come Back

Try a broader seed keyword. A very specific phrase sometimes has no measurable search family around it.

Try Global rather than a narrow city, then narrow down once you can see the shape of the demand.
