Add Competitors to your Brand Profile
Add up to five competitor websites in the Audience tab, plus a note on what makes you different. They are used to differentiate your content, and NarraSEO never mentions or endorses them in your articles.

Competitors tell NarraSEO what you are up against, so your articles can cover what rivals cover and add what they miss.
Find them in Sidebar β Brand Profile β Audience.
Steps
- Open
Sidebar β Brand Profile. - Select the Audience tab.
- Find Competitor websites.
- Paste a competitor URL, in the form
https://competitor.com. - Add up to five.
- Fill in What makes you different? below the list.
Onboarding proposes five automatically. Replacing the ones that are not right is usually a better use of a minute than accepting them.
Choosing Competitors Worth Listing
You get five. Spend them on businesses you actually compete with.
Search results are full of pages that rank for reasons you cannot replicate:
- Directories and marketplaces. Yell, Checkatrade, Amazon.
- National publishers. Newspapers and magazines writing about your topic once.
- Wikipedia and government sites. They rank on authority, not on competing with you.
- Businesses in other countries serving a market you do not.
None of those tell NarraSEO anything useful about how to position your content. Five direct rivals of roughly your size, in your market, do.
If you genuinely have fewer than five real competitors, list fewer. An accurate three beats a padded five.
What Makes you Different
This field is the one that changes output most, and it is the one most often left blank.
NarraSEO uses it to position your content. Without it, articles describe your industry. With it, they describe why someone should choose you.
Write what a customer would actually notice:
- Weak: "Quality, service, and value."
- Better: "We publish our prices, which none of the four big local firms do."
- Better: "We only work with dental practices, so we know the compliance rules other agencies get wrong."
What Competitors are Used For
Differentiating your content. Positioning your articles against theirs.
Gap analysis when you write. In Write Article, step 4 shows competitor articles and lets you select up to five for analysis. Your profile competitors are available there.
Quick Draft and Autoblog. Both resolve their competitor set automatically, drawing on this profile. This is the main reason to fill it in properly: those two flows never ask you, so the profile is the only input.
AI Visibility. Competitor comparison in the visibility leaderboard.
What Competitors are Not Used For
NarraSEO will never mention or endorse these competitors in your articles. The profile states this directly. They inform the writing without appearing in it.
So listing a competitor does not risk your article recommending them.
Notes
Competitors are per project, because each project is a different business.
Five is the maximum in the profile. Write Article separately allows selecting up to five articles for analysis on a given piece, which is a different limit.
You can change the list at any time. Changes affect future generations, not articles already written.
If your Competitors are Not Helping
Two common causes:
The list is full of directories. Replace them with real rivals.
Positioning is blank. The competitor list alone tells NarraSEO who to differentiate from, but not how.
