Connect Joomla

Joomla needs your site URL and an API token. Enable the Web Services Content and API Authentication Token plugins first, then copy the token from the Joomla API Token tab in your user profile.

Joomla's API is disabled by default, so there are two plugins to enable before the connection will work.

Available on every plan.

What you Need

  • A Joomla site with two plugins enabled.
  • An API token from your Joomla user profile.

Step 1: Enable the Plugins

In Joomla, enable both:

  • Web Services - Content
  • API Authentication - Token

Both are required. The first exposes the content API, and the second allows token authentication against it. Enabling one without the other does not work.

Step 2: Copy your API Token

In your Joomla user profile, open the Joomla API Token tab and copy the token. It begins with sha.

The token belongs to a specific user, and articles NarraSEO creates are owned by that user. Use an account that should own published content.

Step 3: Enter the Credentials

  1. Open Sidebar β†’ Integrations.
  2. Find Joomla under Publishing & CMS.
  3. Fill in the two fields:

Field

What to enter

Joomla site URL

Your site address, for example https://example.com. NarraSEO adds the API path for you.

API token

The token from step 2

  1. Select Connect Joomla.

Enter the site address only. Do not append the API path.

Step 4: Verify

Select Verify connection. On success you see "Joomla connection verified."

On failure: "Could not verify the Joomla connection. Check the site URL and API token."

Publishing Options

Joomla uses Draft, Publish now, and Schedule, with a Publish date and time field, plus the Featured image and Article title toggles.

If it Will Not Connect

One of the plugins is disabled. This is the most common cause. Check both Web Services - Content and API Authentication - Token are enabled.

The token tab is missing from your profile. That means the API Authentication - Token plugin is not enabled yet.

The account cannot create articles. Check the user's permissions in Joomla.

You added the API path. Enter the site address only.

A firewall is blocking the API. Some Joomla security extensions block API endpoints by default.

Notes

API tokens can be regenerated in Joomla, which invalidates the previous one and requires reconnecting here.

Articles are created under the user whose token you used.

The connection is per project.

Joomla article formatting depends on your template and editor settings. Check your first published article.
